Get Your TBR Pile Ready: My Most Anticipated Reads of 2023

As a fellow bookworm, you're constantly on the lookout for the next great book to add to your reading list. With so many amazing titles being published every year, constant Booktok and Bookstagram recs, it can be tough to decide what to read next. I've compiled a list of my most anticipated reads for 2023. These are the books that I can't wait to get my hands on and dive into (publishers if you’re reading this…yes, I’d like ARCs please…I’m begging you!). Some of them are upcoming releases from some of my favorite authors, while others are highly buzzed about debuts that I can't wait to check out (lookin’ at you Spare). Knowing me, you’ll not be surprised to find mostly fantasy, but I love to sprinkle in historical fiction, sci-fi, and non-fiction, among other genres.

Are any of these already on your list, or will you be adding them to yours? What else is on your list that I missed? Drop a comment below.

Spare by Prince Harry

Releases: January 10th, 2023

After watching the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle documentary, I’m so intrigued to read this. He honestly seems like such a down to earth person, good father, and genuinely kind person. I’ve never been one to follow the royals, but what they went through was pretty heartbreaking.

Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo

Releases: January 10th, 2023

Yes, I still need to read Ninth House, and so do you if you haven’t yet and want to read this new sequel by beloved author, Leigh Bardugo. But if you’re looking for Dark Academic vibes with some magic sprinkled in, apparently this is the one.

The Daughters of Izdihar by Hadeer Elsbai

Releases: January 10th, 2023

Thief of Sorrows by Kristen M. Long

Releases: January 17th, 2023

A debut author telling a gender-bend Robin Hood retelling. Yes, please! I actually have an ARC of this and will be sharing my thoughts with the community soon!

Spice Road by Maiya Ibrahim

Releases: January 24th, 2023

The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by S.A. Chakraborty

Releases: March 7th, 2023

I’ve not heard a single bad thing about this author, and The Davebad trilogy is still on my TBR, so I might have to get to that first before I tackle this one, but from everything I’ve heard, I’m pretty sure I’ll love everything she writes.

The Bone Shard War by Andrea Stewart

Releases: April 18th, 2023

Happy Place by Emily Henry

Releases: April 25th, 2023

I’ll be honest, I really disliked People We Meet On Vacation. It was a terrible read—for me. However, I did enjoy Book Lovers last year, minus a few irritating things. So you’re probably like, “Ashley, why would this book make the list?” I like to throw at least one contemporary romance on the TBR each year, even though it’s usually not my cup of tea. Sometimes they surprise you.

Yellowface by R. F. Kuang

Releases: May 16th, 2023

At this point, I’ll pretty much read anything she puts out. I absolutely loved Babel, and The Poppy War is still on my TBR. This one definitely feels outside of my comfort zone of genres I like, but sometimes that’s a good thing!

Lore Olympus 4 by Rachel Smythe

Releases: June 6th, 2023

I’ve been a huge fan of the first three volumes, so I can’t wait for this one. I fly through them and am always left feeling like it went too fast, so hopefully we get some more meat of the Hades and Persephone story.

Crescent City 3 by Sarah J. Maas

The Bridge Kingdom 4 by Danielle L. Jensen

No release date confirmed

The Bloodsworn Saga 3 by John Gwynne
