Join Our Epic Fantasy Buddy Read for Sept/Oct 2024: Experience The Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne

Our Summer Reading Challenge has shockingly come to a close (how did the summer go by so quickly?!). But it means, it’s time for another casual community buddy read in our BAMTP Discord! So what will we all be reading?! The Bloodsworn Saga by John Gwynne, a soon to be completed epic fantasy trilogy. We’ll be reading the first two books in this grimdark fantasy this September and October leading up to the release of book three, The Fury of the Gods on October 22nd, 2024. You can also find the first two books in Kindle Unlimited currently, if you don’t already have them on your shelf, or snag them from the library.

Haven’t joined a buddy read before? It’s kinda like a book club, but without the stringent schedule or stress. Our buddy reads are read-at-your-own-pace: binge them both quickly, or read some suggested chapters weekly—my belief is reading should never feel like homework, so do what works best for you. The fun part is we’ve got Discord chats for each book so readers can share their thoughts, fan art, questions, reading reactions, and hopefully make some book friends along the way. It’s completely free to join, btw (but don’t be a lurker).

This will be a reread for me—I absolutely loved the first two books (confession: book two is my fave!), and it ended on a pretty brutal cliffhanger, which I’ve been waiting over two years to find out what happens! I cannot wait to be revisiting the world of Vígríð, Orka, Spert and Vesli, and all the rest of my favorites.

Now contrary to the cover of book one, this book is not really about dragons…I know, I know. There IS a dragon, but that’s all I’m telling you. Check the list below to decide if this is the right buddy read series for you, and if you’re ready to read with us, join here:

This buddy read is for you if love:

  • Epic fantasy

  • Amazing older MCs (yay for the over 30 crowd!)

  • Flawed characters

  • Found family

  • Vengeance and how far you’re willing to go for those you love

  • Vikings and warring gods

  • Creature sidekicks

  • Amazing magic systems

  • Perfect mix of character + plot

  • TW: violence, war, torture

If you’re not quite sure if you want to join in, you can check my spoiler free review of the first two books.
