25 Most Anticipated Fantasy + Romantasy Novels Releasing in 2025 that You’ll Want on Your Shelf
A new year means incredible new reads to discover and a return to some of your favorite worlds. When I sat down to research this list, I realized there are so many highly anticipated sequels coming out this year! There are also debut authors to discover, and new standalones to sink your teeth into, so there’s plenty to keep your TBR growing. I’ve collected 25 of my most anticipated reads in Fantasy and Romantasy coming out this year that I believe you’ll also potentially love. I’m sensing a trend of historical fiction fantasy this year, and as it’s one of my favorite subgenres of fantasy, I’m not mad about it. I may need to make another list for literary fiction, because there are quite a few of those I’m excited for as well. My fellow book collector’s will also be pleased to see so many sprayed edges for the first edition print runs. I love that it’s becoming an almost standard thing. Red Tower Books really kicked off this craze in the U.S. and my shelves are certainly prettier for it. Spoiler alert, of course Onyx Storm made the list!

A vampire book?! Enough said. But this one has no humans. Huh?! I’m currently reading an ARC of this, and I think it’s going to be a super interesting take on vampires, as well as a bit of a murder mystery.

Target just announced a new special edition with different sprayed edges and artwork, but the catch is there’s no preorder, so it’ll be like the old days, rushing to the store first thing to get the book!

I definitely didn’t get the hype with book one. I loved the idea of the story, but the blood magic gave me the ick, and NO ONE ever talks about it. As an elder Millennial, I am going to be feral for this book. I reread The Hunger Games trilogy, and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes a couple years ago, and it was still 5 stars across the board for me. These books have held up so well, and are still some of my favorites. I can’t wait to read about Haymitch’s Games. The cover though? I expected so much more.

Book three in the Little Thieves series. I absolutely LOVED book one—a dark fairytale retelling of the Goose Girl told from the perspective of the maid. It’s so snarky and so good. Book two, Little Devils, I didn’t love as much, but I still love these characters, so I’m hoping we’ll get a good conclusion!

The 5th book in The Bridge Kingdom series, and the first book in the third duet. Got it? I know, it can be confusing. This is essentially a series of interconnected duologies. I’m super excited to read this one (it’s already out on Audible, as Jensen publishes each one with Audible first before the hard copies are published six months later. This will also, unfortunately, be the first book to not match the original covers, as Jensen’s beloved Romantasy series was picked up by a publisher.

I am SO excited to read this debut novel from a fellow Booktoker! I remember when Evan joined Booktok, and started making amazing rec videos, a podcast, and making us all laugh with his dry humor.
