10+ Most Anticipated Reads for the Rest of 2022
Now that we’re well into the second half of the year, what books are you most looking forward to reading? Are there authors you want to revisit? I’ve curated a list of my most anticipated reads for the second half of 2022, including some upcoming sequels, standalones, and backlist books I haven’t managed to get around to yet. Are any of these books on your list?
All of Our Demise by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman
Release Date: August 30th, 2022
I just received an ARC of this book, and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to dig into it (shout out to Tor!). If you’re new here, let me just tell you that All of Us Villains (Book one) was one of my favorite reads so far this year, so expect a full review soon.
Babel by R.F. Kuang
Release Date: August 23rd, 2022
I still have not read The Poppy War, but by the way people I trust talk about this author, I just know this book is going to be amazing. Dark academia vibes with magic at Oxford? Are you kidding me?!
Lore Olympus, Vol 3 by Rachel Smythe
Release Date: October 11th, 2022
I very recently read Lore Olympus, Vol 2, and loved it so much–even more than Vol 1. I’m not caught up on the Webtoon episodes, and I have a feeling Vol 3 is going to get a little deeper into the plot, and I’m excited to see Persephone own her power. If you’re looking to get into graphic novels, and love darker Greek retellings, this series is a great place to start.
The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake
Release Date: October 25th, 2022
I absolutely loved The Atlas Six. It was a somewhat polarizing book on Booktok. People either loved it or hated it. If you love character driven stories, physics and magic combined, and more academic writing, you will probably also love this series like I do. Since book one ended on a cliffhanger, I have been not-so-patiently waiting for book two.
Bloodmarked by Tracey Deonn
Release Date: November 8th, 2022
The long-awaited sequel to Legendborn is almost here! If you like modern Arthurian retellings, urban fantasy, strong female characters, and you haven’t yet picked up Legendborn, now is the time. I’m incredibly excited to continue this story because, of course, book one ended on a cliffhanger.
A Light in the Flame by Jennifer L Armentrout
Release Date: November 15th, 2022
The sequel to A Shadow in the Ember, the prequel in the From Blood and Ash universe. Was I incredibly disappointed in her last release (The War of Two Queens)? Yes, yes I was. But am I still looking forward to this one? Also, somehow yes. I have hope for this part of the story, but I’m already preparing myself to have to look past the cringe modernisms, and grammatical errors. I need answers, ok?!
Be With Me by Samantha Young
Release Date: Available Now.
Just released, this is the fourth book in the Adair Family Series (you can check out my review of the first two books here). I love a good mystery romance set in a beautiful place. Each book in the series follows a different sibling of the Adair Family and this one is for a brother we don’t know a lot about yet, but I’m sure will be sexy as hell… It’s Samantha Young, so I’d expect nothing less at this point from this series.
The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd
Release Date: Currently Available.
I remember seeing this one make the rounds early in the year when it was a Book of the Month pick, and I immediately added it to my TBR. A map, a family mystery, and magic?! Yes, please. Apparently if you’re a V.E. Schwab fan, people say you’ll love it, so I’m prepared to be dazzled by beautiful writing and great character development.
Ordinary Monsters by J.M. Miro
Release Date: Currently Available.
I have been seeing this all over Booktok…and I’m a sucker for a cool cover, and a found family trope. It sounds like an X-Men-esque mystery set in the Victorian era where some broken, gifted children must save the world. I’m sold.
The Merciless Ones by Namina Forna
Release Date: Currently Available.
The sequel to The Gilded Ones, which was one of my favorite YA fantasy reads in 2021. I absolutely cannot wait to return to the world of Deka and her friends. If you haven’t picked this series up yet, please check trigger warnings. Yes, it’s technically YA, but it’s very violent.
A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross
Release Date: Currently Available.
I have a gorgeous copy of this book from Illumicrate, and it’s been staring at me for months on my shelf, daring me to pick it up. I have not seen one single bad review of this book. Everyone I’ve spoken to said it’s an incredible fantasy novel, so I’m looking forward to cozying up in the fall with this one.
REREADS:
Graphic Audio of A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J, Maas
#ProTip: Hoopla, a free library app, has been releasing these monthly. So in August we’ll get part one of A Court of Wings and Ruin. I have been loving this casual reread of this series. The full cast, the music, and the sound effects (although what’s up with the winnowing sound?! yikes) really make it a unique reading experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two, so I’m looking forward to picking this one up. P.S. If you have an Audible membership, you can also listen to them there, but each part takes a credit, so I’d personally rather save my credits for an entire book, but if you want to listen all at once, it’s an option.
Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, I’m jumping in as a guest host for the Maas Read-Along starting in August. We’re re-reading all of Sarah J. Maas’ three main series, starting with Throne of Glass. It’s been two years since I’ve read Throne of Glass, and I honestly cannot wait to revisit some of my favorite characters and fictional places. Come join us! Side note, the ten year anniversary of Throne of Glass is coming up the first week of August, so now’s the time to snag the original boxed set if you haven’t yet.
Hopefully this list inspired you to add to your neverending TBR. Are there any of these you’d love to see reviews from me specifically? Drop a comment and let me know, or share a book you’re excited to read this year!
